Certificate course on Montessori Method for Chennai Corporation School Teachers

SRCT successfully completed a Montessori Teacher Training Certificate Course for 44 teachers working in various Chennai Corporation schools. The Training program was for 300 hours comprising Theory classes, Practical classes, Observation and Workshops and spanned nine months from August 2023 to April 2024.

The training program was undertaken at the request of Greater Chennai Corporation. SRCT designed the curriculum with the help of experienced Montessorians. A unique aspect of the training was that it was primarily conducted in Tamil;  Viva and written exams were held before certification.  

The conduct of the program was generously supported by Cognizant Foundation and the graduation function was held in their premises on 4 September 2024. The Foundation’s CEO Mr.Deepak Prabhu Matti graced the event as Chief Guest and distributed  certificates to the awardees.

The course was structured to:

1. develop a teacher’s role in creating a stimulating environment for children
2. train the teacher to present Montessori materials, provide right help at the right time and ensure that the child’s development is nurtured and
3. train the teacher to set up the Montessori classroom and prepare the materials that facilitate independent learning by

As part of practical classrooms, the teachers were trained to create Montessori materials and practice their use in the classroom.

The faculty were senior Montessorians Ms.Sunitha Subramanian, Ms.Brinda Raghunath and Ms.Thilaka, led by Director Ms.Chitra Mani. SRCT’s coordinator Ms.Sudha Gandekar and administration staff Mr.Senthil Kumar, ensured smooth implementation of the training program.
