We are pleased to announce that the Guru Krupa Foundation has approved a grant to run our Montessori program in 14 environments, for children between the ages of 3 and 8 years, in 4 public schools in Chennai. Guru Krupa Foundation is a private foundation based in the State of New York. The Foundation follows a holistic approach to charitable giving, focusing on four broad categories: Social Welfare, Higher Education, Spirituality, Culture & Arts and the Environment.
Since 1999, SRCT has been making significant strides in increasing access and improving the quality of education for underprivileged children in Chennai. We began running our Montessori program in one school, and have since expanded to 14 schools and five balwadi (pre-school) centres, with 79 individual environments, employing 66 staff including 46 as teachers. As of July 2024, 100+ teachers had undergone training in Montessori approach and around 25000 children have benefited.
Our mission includes bringing about meaningful social change in the lives of underprivileged children by providing access to education, and empowering disadvantaged women to become independent, contributing members of society.
Children who participate in our program come from economically disadvantaged backgrounds and do not receive the holistic support they require to become confident adults. Our Montessori program is designed to empower children to explore the world at their own pace, while developing their cognitive and emotional abilities, allowing them to solve their own problems, in a supportive environment.
Since 2021, Guru Krupa Foundation has been a dedicated partner, enabling us to expand our Montessori program, across Chennai. We are truly grateful for their generosity and commitment to making a positive impact in the lives of underprivileged children.
